Wind Generators Don’t Need Blades!

Wind Generators; Bladeless Vibro-Wind Panels

The wind turbine blades normally associated with those large Wind Generators, just might be about to be eclipsed by Bladeless Vibro-Wind Panels. Our countryside is dominated by windgenerators that have 3 large blades.

In May 2010, Cornell University’s Vibro-Wind Research Group sent out a press release about their Bladeless Wind Generators. A idea that might upset the market if Frank MoonVibro Wind Generators professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering have anything to do with it.

The principal idea behind this new development is to look at the problem from a new perspective. Wind Generators don’t have to be built with rotating ‘windmill’ like blades.

The Vibro-Wind Research Group at Cornell University have been working on a whole new concept which uses the vibrations produced by the wind, even at very low wind speeds, to generate electricity – and so the bladeless wind generators have been born.

Have a watch of a light hearted, short video that was released on Vimeo, it should quickly dispell any doubts about the lack of rotating blades. To watch a very short video ‘click’ here.

Wind Generators – Don’t they make a lot of noise?

The real bonus for these kinds of Wind Generators – they can be places in and around Cities, Towns and Villages without fear of alarming the planning office or annoying the hell out of your neighbours. They don’t create the noise polution associated with those massive wind generators that can be seen ‘marching’ across our open countryside and cluttering the landscape. The same open countryside isn’t needed for this new style of wind generators. Tey can be made smaller and far less intrusive, they could be integrated into the fabric of building design and construction.

Are Bladeless Wind Generators environmentally friendly?

Well -YES, as a matter of fact there are big benefits to be gained by these bladeless wind generators if we don’t have those huge rotating blades which is pretty important if you are a bird, bat or a flying insect such as one of our seriously declining bee population. It will definately be  (no pun intended) much safer for them.

I have to say – if ever there was a design that looks like it could be made by your average Do-it-Yourselfer, then this is it. Let’s hope they don’t slap a pattent on the design.

If you are still of a mind to produce your own DIY Wind Generators then look no further than our Review and Comparison pages within this site, where you will find our Top DIY Guides that will take you step-by-step by the hand through the whole process of making your very own wind generators and solar panels at a fraction of the turn key manufacturers list prices.

I do believe that I might be able to make one of those Bladeless Wind Generators - what do you say guys was it technically difficult? It doesn’t look to be built with super expensive materials or equipment. Wouldn’t it be great if they would just share the design plans for their totally new kind of wind generators? Once they have perfected the design… ironed out all the wrinkles and scaled it up to produce a reasonable electrical output - stuff like that.

Wind Generators – will most likely provide the majority of the micro-generation of electricity in areas of the world where there simply isn’t enough sunlight to make it viable to use solar panels. Whether they be the huge industrial scale turbines we see dominating our country skylines, the more humble DIY wind turbines or this new breed of bladeless wind generators.

The worlds creative juices are flowing.

Just remember - the worlds creative juices are flowing ever stronger, in an all out effort to reduce our impact on the environment, with wind generators and solar panels playing a relatively small part of that endeavour - small but not insignificant.
